What You Will Learn

This course on Engineering Drawing will cover essential concepts and skills in technical drawing and projection.

• Unit 1: Plane Curves and Free Hand Sketching - You will learn to construct conic sections like ellipses, parabolas, and hyperbolas using the eccentricity method. You will also practice drawing cycloids and involutes of squares and circles. The unit emphasizes visualization principles and freehand sketching of multiple orthographic views from a single pictorial view.
• Unit 2: Projection of Points, Lines, and Plane Surfaces - This unit introduces orthographic projections, including the principles and principal planes. You will learn to project points in all quadrants and straight lines inclined to the principal planes. You will also determine true lengths and inclinations using the rotating line method, and project regular polygonal and circular surfaces.
• Unit 3: Projection of Solids - You will explore the projection of simple solids like prisms, pyramids, cylinders, and cones when their axes are inclined to one of the principal planes.
• Unit 4: Section of Solids & Development of Lateral Surface of Solids - In this unit, you will learn to section simple solids in vertical positions and determine the true shape of the section. You will also practice developing the lateral surfaces of prisms, pyramids, cylinders, and cones.
• Unit 5: Isometric and Perspective Projections - You will study the principles of isometric projection, including the isometric scale and projections of simple and truncated solids. You will also learn about perspective projection of solids using the visual ray method.

This progression will take you from basic sketching techniques to more advanced projection and rendering methods.
