This course covers the fundamentals of microeconomics through a structured approach. You will explore key concepts that form the basis of economic theory and practice.
- Introduction to Economics: You will learn the meaning and scope of economics, the difference between microeconomics and macroeconomics, and basic economic problems like scarcity and choice. You will understand opportunity cost and the Production Possibility Curve (PPC).
- Demand Analysis: This module covers the meaning and law of demand, determinants of demand, and how to read demand schedules and curves. You will also study types of demand and elasticity of demand, concluding with consumer equilibrium.
- Supply Analysis: You will learn the meaning and law of supply, its determinants, and how to interpret supply schedules and curves. The concept of elasticity of supply, market equilibrium, and price determination will also be discussed.
- Consumer Behaviour: This section focuses on utility analysis, the law of diminishing marginal utility, and indifference curve analysis. You will explore the budget line and consumer choice, as well as the concept of consumer surplus.
- Production and Cost: You will examine factors of production, the production function, and the law of variable proportions. The course will cover returns to scale and differentiate between short-run and long-run costs, including cost curves.
- Market Structures: This module introduces perfect competition, monopoly, monopolistic competition, and oligopoly. You will learn about price and output determination along with comparisons of various market structures.
- Factor Pricing: You will study wage determination, rent, interest, profit theories, and the marginal productivity theory.
- Welfare Economics & Contemporary Issues: This final module discusses economic welfare, market failures, externalities, public goods, government intervention, and introduces the digital economy and modern markets.
