Passing Certificate of Class 10 CBSE

Your CBSE Class 10 passing certificate reaches you through exactly one of three channels your school, DigiLocker, or CBSE's duplicate-document portal and which one applies to you depends on whether you're collecting it for the first time or you've lost it.

There's one detail that trips up a lot of students first: the "passing certificate" isn't a separate physical document from your marksheet in the way people expect. Your marksheet (DMC) itself carries a field called "Passing Certificate Number," and for most practical purposes admissions, verification, government forms that number is your passing certificate reference. A separate certificate document also exists and is issued alongside your marksheet, but if a form asks for your "passing certificate number," look on your marksheet before assuming you need a different paper.

Which path applies to you

Path 1: Through your school

Regular students get the original passing certificate and marksheet as a set from their school after CBSE declares results. Schools receive these directly from CBSE and are responsible for distribution so if it's delayed, the first call is to your school, not CBSE directly.

Path 2: Through DigiLocker

This is the fastest legitimate route once your school has uploaded results. As of the 2026 result cycle, CBSE has also linked this process to APAAR IDs to speed up verification.

To get your certificate on DigiLocker:

1. Go to DigiLocker (web or app) and sign in with your mobile number or Aadhaar.

2. Select CBSE and your class, then enter your school code, roll number, and the 6-digit security PIN/access code your school provides contact your school if you don't have this PIN.

3. Verify with the OTP sent to your mobile.

4. Once your account is linked, open Issued Documents your marksheet, passing certificate, and migration certificate (if applicable) will appear there once your school has released results into the system.

5. Download the PDF. It carries a DigiLocker verification badge and QR code, and is legally equivalent to the physical original under the IT Act, 2000 accepted for Class 11 admissions, scholarships, and most institutional verification.

If your result is declared but the document isn't showing yet, it's usually a sync delay — try the manual "Search" option within DigiLocker for CBSE documents, or check back after a few hours rather than assuming an error. If you are studying with an online Class 10 tutor, you can also ask them to help verify your result details while waiting for the document to appear.

Path 3: Lost or damaged certificate the DADS route

If your certificate is lost, mutilated, or you never collected it, apply through CBSE's Duplicate Academic Document System (DADS), not through your school.

1. Go to the official DADS portal (linked from cbse.gov.in) and fill the duplicate document application.

2. Choose whether you want a digital copy, a printed copy via speed post, or both.

3. Pay the applicable fee CBSE's published DADS fee structure is tiered by how old the original document is: up to 5 years: ₹250, more than 5–10 years: ₹500, more than 10–20 years: ₹1,000.

4. Track your application status directly on the DADS portal using your application reference.

A duplicate issued through DADS carries the same academic and legal standing as the original it isn't treated as a lesser document for admissions or employment verification.

Common issues, and what they actually mean

• Name, roll number, or school code doesn't match: report this to your school immediately CBSE corrects most of these through the school, not through direct student applications.

• DigiLocker won't fetch your document: double-check you're using the mobile number linked to your school's records, not a different personal number.

• You need it for a foreign university or visa application: the DigiLocker PDF with its verification QR code is generally accepted, but some foreign institutions require an apostille or additional attestation on top of it check with the specific institution rather than assuming DigiLocker alone is sufficient.
